Which Lagos market for which goods?
Balogun, Trade Fair, Idumota, Computer Village and Yaba: what each one does best.
Lagos has a market for everything, but each one has its speciality. Here's where our agents go.
Balogun (Lagos Island)
Bags, fabrics, shoes and jewellery. Crowded, so go early. Many wholesalers have warehouses on the side streets around Breadfruit and Martins.
Trade Fair (Ojo)
Hair, fashion and home goods, mostly imported. Large plazas with wholesalers who supply the whole South West.
Idumota (Lagos Island)
Kitchenware, home décor, toys and household items. Good for cookware sets and plastic goods by the carton.
Computer Village (Ikeja)
Phone accessories and gadgets. Know your specs: fast chargers, cable types, power bank capacity. Fakes exist, so buy from verified wholesalers.
Yaba Market
Thrift (okrika) bales and ladies' wear. Bales are graded A, B and C: always ask which grade.
Outside Lagos
- Ariaria, Aba: shoes, bags and clothing made in Aba.
- Onitsha Main Market: fabrics, cosmetics and kids' wear.
- Kantin Kwari, Kano: fabrics, ankara and lace.
Our agents cover all of these, and new markets are added often.
